Days per Year: 260 Min : $45,386 Mid: $53,394 JOB TITLE: Analyst, Crime REPORTS TO: Telecommunications Manager-Police Department WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

PAYGRADE: POL 2

PRIMARY PURPOSE :

Under direct supervision of the Telecommunications Manager through the Police Department Emergency Communications Center, the Crime Analyst is responsible for the collection, evaluation and analysis of real-time crime systems, reports, and performance related data. Conducts tactical, strategic and administrative security analysis to collect, analyze and evaluate crime data, developing trends, patterns and changes in criminal activity. The position is also responsible for full service police dispatch operations, CCTV monitoring, alarm system monitoring, and responsible Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures by monitoring, deterring and evaluating criminal activity in real-time through the use of surveillance cameras, criminal justice information systems reports, and other law enforcement agencies, software and databases. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution Experience in crime analysis, criminal justice, telecommunications or a related field Valid Texas Driver's License Successfully pass a thorough background check Successfully pass psychological and drug exams Additional requirements if selected: Obtain TCOLE Telecommunications Certification within 6 months of employment. Obtain and maintain a recognized Criminal Intelligence Analyst Certification. Obtain and maintain FBI Security clearance for restricted intelligence data. Preferred 3 years as a police telecommunicator, police officer, or criminal justice job experience. TCOLE Intermediate or above certification Some college in criminal justice, criminology, or another related field such as crime or data analysis. May substitute some or all of the college education requirement for relevant work experience. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Must have strong communication and analytical skills. Must have excellent writing skills with consistent attention to detail. Strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to learn and apply the uniform crime reporting processes and requirements; acquire knowledge of law enforcement needs, techniques, methods, and legal demands. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Must be able to locate and interpret data and must be able to repackage and present it in a way that can be easily understood by others. Strong knowledge of Telecommunications operations and procedures. Strong skills in operating computer systems and law enforcement databases. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Execute exceptional discretion and confidentiality with regard to highly sensitive information, documents and data. Operate a variety of resources, including district security surveillance equipment and alarm systems, crime mapping technology, computer-aided dispatch, records management, criminal justice contacts with other professionals in their area and around the country. Apply principles of analysis to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions, formulate strategies and make practical recommendations. Prepare the monthly crime analysis reports. Prepare written presentations and present using charts and graphs to assist the Police department in making informed resource decisions to determine where police and safety presence needs to be increased or decreased by analyzing emerging or existing crime series, patterns and trends as well as suspect and victim profiles. Exchange data on criminal activity and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies in order to study and analyze past and existing crime series, patterns and trends. Serve as a backup Telecommunications Officer (Police Dispatcher) as assigned. Other duties may include assisting with receiving, classifying, tagging, and receiving evidence and property submitted by officers. Other duties may include assisting with packing, labeling and storing evidence to assure safeguarding for prosecution purposes. Retrieve and release evidence for lab work, investigations, or court purposes. Ensure property and evidence are stored appropriately and can be easily located; conducts periodic inventories of property rooms, and assists with property room audits. Assisting with maintaining all records related to property and evidence received, released, and disposed of or destroyed and ensuring documentation of chain of custody for all physical evidence. Recommend items for disposal or destruction and prepare them to be disposed of or destroyed as determined necessary. Generate and maintain a log of activities that occur in and around the campus on a daily basis. Generate and maintain the ARMS Pass On log for supervisor briefings. Submit relevant security maintenance work orders as needed. Adheres to SISD's policies and procedures and compliant on state, local and federal laws. Perform all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is generally performed in a high stress office environment with long periods of sitting or standing. Job requires employees to spend most of their time working in teams, at a computer desk and viewing wall monitors. Maintain emotional control under stress. Employees use chemicals associated with processing of evidence and are sometimes exposed to hazardous materials, such as narcotics, chemical precursors, etc. Employees may also be exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens in the handling of evidence. Employees may also handle dangerous objects and potentially lethal weapons, such as guns and knives. Must meet specific hearing and visual requirements. Ability to lift or carry up to 30lbs. Flexible hours and overtime required as needed. Employment contingent upon passing a criminal convictions check, background investigation, polygraph examination and fingerprinting. Subject to re-check every two years.
