Operations and Maintenance Technician Job Description

Data Center Operations and Maintenance Technician (O&M Tech) as a team player performing operations, maintenance, and technical support to achieve safe, cost-effective operations and maintenance of the plant.

Key Accountabilities

Maintain electrical & mechanical systems of the data center.

1. Training and continuing education for new & existing O&M technicians.
2. Maintain a professional attitude with all stakeholders.
3. Maintain strong familiarity & provide feedback to datacenter leadership with all safety & environmental procedures & programs
4. Assist in coordinating day-to-day maintenance at the Datacenter.
5. Keep data center site clean, neat and organized.

Required Skills /Abilities

High & Medium Voltage Wiring and Protection:

1. Branch circuit and feeder calculations
2. Overcurrent protection calculations
3. Grounding requirements
4. High & Medium Voltage Wiring Methods and Materials:
5. Familiar with the different types of Conductors, Cables, Raceways
6. Flexible Cords and Cables
7. Switchboards and Panelboards
8. Motors, Motor Circuits, and Controllers:
9. Motor Circuit Conductor requirements
   1. Motor and Branch Circuit Overload Protection calculations
   2. Motor Short Circuit and Ground Fault Protection calculations
   3. Motor Control Center operation and maintenance
   4. Grounding Requirements
   5. DC Motors and Controls
10. High Voltage Transformer connections and operations.
11. Storage batteries, DC circuits and building controls maintenance and troubleshooting.
12. Fire/Emergency systems and controls.
13. Must be able to read electrical drawings.
14. Above average computer skills-Microsoft Excel/Word experience.
15. Experience with PLC’s or similar equipment helpful.
16. Familiarity with preventive maintenance software programs
17. Rigging
18. Use of pneumatic tooling.
19. Able to read mechanical prints

1. Able to disassemble equipment and replace components such as bearings, seals, etc.
2. Able to maintain & replace fans, dampers, motors, etc.
3. Experience in plumbing and drainage systems.

Education/Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.

1. Associate degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science a plus.
2. A minimum of 2 years of on-the-job experience in an industrial setting is required.
3. Journeyman or Master Electrician or college equivalent desired.
4. Understanding of Lock-out / tagout desired
5. Welding experience a plus.
6. First Aid/CPR training desired.
7. On the job evaluations and testing may be required.
8. Valid driver’s license is required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee’s work will consist of administrative and field support, both in a business office setting and at a plant site. In order to properly perform the integral functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand or walk, stoop or kneel crouch and or crawl. The position could require the employee to climb stairs and ladders and maneuver in awkward positions. Frequently, the employee is required to sit. It is crucial to the outcome of job tasks that the employee is able to talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms extensively.

The employee in this classification will be required to frequently lift objects of up to 25 pounds in weight.

Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

In the course of working at the plant site, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office but is loud at the plant site which requires hearing protection.
