Electro Maintenance Technician

 

This Job Description includes activities assigned specifically to the Electro Maintenance Technician at Central Valley Eggs. All GMPs and SOPs should be followed in conjunction with all Food Safety and Food Quality requirements and guidelines. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for ensuring that the following tasks are performed in a timely manner.

 

(There may be some instances where Management may ask the Electro Maintenance Technician for additional tasks to be performed outside of the standard “job description” of this position.)

 

Safety is every employee’s responsibility. It is mandated that you will need to wear your Personal Protective Equipment when performing your job duties.

Caution

Safety guards and interlock switches, furnished as standard equipment on this machine, are for your protection. Do not attempt to operate this machine without first making sure that all guards are properly installed. Do not bypass safety interlock switches. Do not reach under guards. Any of these practices will expose you to needless danger and can result in severe injury to yourself or another person. Report all suspected safety hazards to your supervisor immediately.

 

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for assigning or performing Preventive Maintenance on the Optigrader machine. The duties below will be documented in the PM Log and verified by Management.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: Include, but not limited to:

 

• Diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs Opti-Grader machinery equipment-related problems such as mechanical and electrical failures. Uses various hand and power tools, electric meters, and other tools to complete repairs.
• Developing and carrying out an effective preventative maintenance plan.
• Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
• Independently executes Preventative Maintenance (PM), including cleaning, lubrication, oil changes, adjustments, repairs, rebuilds, and inspecting and replacing parts.
• Identifies necessary replacement parts and independently locates those parts in inventory. Assists in maintaining spare parts inventory through proper checkout of parts. Sources parts that are not in stock.
• Prioritizing order of repairs when multiple maintenance needs exist at the same time
• Ensuring the proper workings of all electrical units and systems in the facility.
• Assists in partial or complete equipment overhauls. Rebuild parts as needed using manuals and SOPs.
• Document and perform repairs and propose improvements to the PM schedule when equipment fails.
• Assists in leading and training other maintenance.
• Comply with safety regulations. Assesses job hazards independently and executes Lockout/ Tagout and other safety permits while working in confined spaces
• Coordinate with the Director of Maintenance, Processing Manager, and Supervisor to ensure downtime and repairs are met by the end of the day.
• Complying with all company and OSHA safety rules while performing maintenance functions.
• Follow company Gmp’s policies, SQF, and HACCP programs. 
• Carrying out a robust predictive maintenance program as equipment begins to age
• Perform uptime and downtime inspections, lubrications, and preventative maintenance.
• Troubleshoot and perform corrective work on all mechanical and water systems within the facility.
• Identify and execute improvements on equipment, documentation, work systems, and processes.
• Repair and troubleshoot all rotating and stationary equipment, such as motors and gearboxes.
• Recognize conditions that could lead to equipment breakdowns.
• Collaborate with different levels of employees in various facility departments through face-to-face, telephone, email, and radio communications.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and install a wide range of conveyor, packaging, and other food processing equipment
• Research system and component specifications using equipment manuals, schematics, parts breakdowns, online information, and vendor communication.
• Creates/modifies work orders and documents details of work performed.
• Escalate technical, procedural, and personnel-related issues to the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Maintain good housekeeping of maintenance and production areas where maintenance work occurs.
• Properly complete the timesheet daily and submit your completed timecard for approval on the last day worked of each workweek.
• Resolve all timecards, attestation, and payroll-related matters and complete the attestation on the last day worked of each workweek.
• Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance per Central Valley Eggs attendance and punctuality policy.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management throughout processing, cooler, and CVE Facility.

 

 

 

Daily

Ø Check all parts on Optigrader Machine and make sure that they have no egg drippings, if so, wipe with a soft cloth or soft brush

 

Ø Check the overall cleanliness and servicing needs of the below components:

§ UV Machine

§ Blood Detectors

§ Dirt Detectors

§ Case Conveyors

§ Tape Machines

§ All Lights in the building

§ Fork Lifts and Pallet Jacks

§ Check Doors and Walls for any damage or air leaks

§ Accumulator

§ Optical Sensors

§ Transfer

§ Rewash

§ Frame

§ Robot

§ Overwrap

 

Weekly

Ø Use a dry cloth or air compressor to clean all optical sensors and their reflectors

 

Monthly

Ø Oil all chains in accordance with maintenance schedule

Ø Lubricate all bearings- rings in accordance with maintenance schedules

Ø Oil all rod-heads in accordance to the maintenance schedules

Ø Use pressurized air to clean all other installed air filters in the machine

Semi-Annually

Ø Check all chains/toothed belts and if necessary, adjust the tension

Ø If the chains/toothed belts must be tensioned, then the adjustments must be checked against the data contained in the service manual.

Ø Oil all lubrication points in accordance with the maintenance schedules

 

Annually

Ø Replace all air filters in the machine

 

It is also the responsibility of the Director of Maintenance to have a schedule to maintain and service the following, which may be delegated to the Electro Mechanic Technician:

 

Ø Air Conditioning Units- Are serviced on a weekly basis by the Maintenance Department. Filters are checked internally on a monthly basis and APEX will service on an Annual Basis or when necessary.

Ø Packers are serviced on a weekly basis by oiling, greasing, and lubricating chains.

Ø Transfers are serviced on a weekly basis by oiling, greasing, lubing and checking all mechanical timing

Ø Orientor will be serviced on a weekly basis by inspecting belt, greasing bearings, and checking for wear.

Ø Basket Conveyor will be serviced on a weekly basis and will include servicing, chains, idlers, baskets, and checking all mechanical areas of the machine.

Ø Egg Washer will be serviced on a weekly, monthly and semiannually. Brushes, Acid Wash, Power Spray, and Gearbox will all be maintained by the Maintenance department.

Ø Candler will be maintained on both a Weekly and Monthly basis by checking bulbs, oiling spin chain, checking nozzles, sprockets, and bearings.

Ø Scales are maintained on a weekly and monthly basis checking, electrical connections, perch alignment, air pressure, and tightness.

Ø Crack Detectors will be maintained on a weekly and monthly basis checking for proper cleaning, rubber tears, air connections, and volt sensors.

Ø Blowers are serviced on a weekly basis by the maintenance department.

Ø Maintenance personnel are required to maintain any and all equipment within the Plant/Office area.

 

Physical Requirements:

• Continuously lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 50 pounds; regularly lift/move/push/pull objects weighing up to and including 75 pounds.
• Frequently climbs ladders; occasionally works at heights of 100 feet.
• Vision sufficient to safely perform the essential job tasks

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Experience:

• Mechanical aptitude
• Plumbing installation and repair

• Electrical troubleshooting and repair (3 Phase 208-480v and control circuitry theory

(DC and AC)

• Experience with power, electric tools, and hand tools
• Understanding of and ability to repair various drive systems
• Heater and fan repair
• Building maintenance
• Ability to read schematics and technical drawings
• PLC programming experience

• Leadership and management skills
• Analytical and problem solving
• Literacy skills, including the ability to read manuals (SOPs, schematics, engineering drawings, etc.)
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills
• Time management skills

• Bilingual (English/Spanish)

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

• High School diploma (GED accepted)
• Associate Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Technology (Preferred)
• Work Experience: 3+ Years of Electro Mechanic/ maintenance experience in manufacturing.
• Must be able to pass mechanical test.
• Must be able to work safely and effectively in a team environment and with minimal supervision.
• Must be self-motivated and willing to maintain and develop his/her skills.
• Interpret mechanical/ electrical drawings, specifications, and diagrams (Preferred).

 

Additional Requirements:

• Analytical skills and mechanical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.
• Detailed oriented with the ability to follow a checklist and maintain accurate work order documentation.
• Experience in machine modification and rebuilds is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and to clearly communicate information received in both written and verbal forms.
• Ability to use shop math (add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals) and interpret basic measuring equipment.
