Position Summary
The Director of Fitness, Aquatics and Community Engagement is responsible for the leadership and supervision of all Fitness and Wellness Departments, Personal Training, Aquatic, Group Fitness, Wellness Coaches, and Medical Integration. The director ensures all programs deliver exceptional member experience and the highest level of customer service to members, guests, and prospects of the facility. The Director will oversee programming, training, and operations to provide impactful services that are profitable while meeting member and community needs; the role also fosters community engagement and delivers exceptional programming at the Wellness Center, managing community room rentals, outreach events, corporate programs, and memberfocused initiatives, and supporting marketing efforts.
Primary Duties
Community Engagement & Event Management
- Lead coordination for all community room events: manage inquiries, scheduling, rental agreements, monetary collection, setup, event execution, and cleanup.
- Be onsite for larger events and conferences, ensuring proper staffing and coordination with EVS, hospital staff, and catering services when applicable.
- Maintain and communicate the community room schedule to Wellness Center and hospital staff.
- Represent the Wellness Center at local events to increase awareness and drive business growth.
- Oversee and staff offsite events from setup through cleanup.
- Plan and deliver member and community events and Wellnessbased programs to increase engagement and retention.
- Oversee community outreach and networking through local events, businesses, and community partnerships.
- Contribute to fundraising initiatives with hospital and Wellness Center leadership.
Fitness & Aquatics Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for all aspects of fitness in the Wellness Center.
- Create, maintain, and evaluate group fitness schedules (land and water) based on cost, attendance, and member feedback.
- Maintain schedules for Group Fitness, Personal Training, Small Group Training, Wellness Coaches, Swim Instructors, and Lifeguards.
- Hire, onboard, train, and mentor fitness trainers, group fitness instructors, wellness coaches, swim instructors, and lifeguards.
- Ensure all fitness professionals adhere to job descriptions and Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Provide leadership for fitness and aquatics programming, including learntoswim programs for children and adults.
- Administer and process Fitness Department payroll biweekly.
- Collaborate with the Wellness Center Director to create, promote, and generate referrals for medically integrated programs.
- Continuously evaluate offerings based on cost, attendance, member feedback and key indicators for successful programming.
- Make recommendations for equipment purchases, repairs, or replacements.
- Monitor industry trends and recommend enhancements to programming or equipment.
- Manage departmental budgets and assist in fiscal planning.
- Ensure staff are trained on emergency action plans and conduct quarterly drills.
Operational & Administrative Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for all Wellness Center departments as needed.
- Support membership, reception, and Kids Club teams with escalated member issues, tours, and sales presentations.
- Uphold staff adherence to employee policies, procedures, and member rules.
- Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled, supporting facilities, aquatic operations, and maintenance issues.
- Work in conjunction with the Director to facilitate partnerships across departments and represent the Wellness Center professionally.
- Proactively ensure excellence in service, operations, and community impact.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support overall Wellness Center success.
Position Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in a healthrelated field (exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, recreation, etc.).
- Minimum three years of supervisory experience, preferably in a fitness setting.
- Minimum of two years of aquatics experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional listening and customer service skills; outgoing and friendly.
- Onsite leadership: leads by example in professionalism, dress, demeanor, dedication, and employee care.
- Ability to handle multiple unexpected challenges calmly.
- Passion for fitness, health, athletics, and wellness.
- Availability to work some weekends and holidays.
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
- Industry recognized certification from ACE, NASM, ACSM, or equivalent.
- Certified Pool/Spa Operator (CPO) certification required; to be completed within the first 30 days of employment.
