POSITION SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Engineer I works directly with the Maintenance Engineer II and is responsible for ensuring the facilities are clean and sanitary. This position is also responsible for inventory and handling chemicals during their shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Deep clean locker rooms and restrooms at least twice daily, including cleaning and sanitizing all services, fixtures, benches, showers and wet mopping all floors
  • Check and empty as need all trash and recycling receptacles at least twice daily
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks including, but not limited to high dusting, windows, lockers and stalls, offices, conference and meeting rooms, etc.
  • Check paper products, chemical dispensers, cleaning products, cleaning equipment at least weekly and submit orders to maintenance supervisor in a timely manner
  • Use, store and secure chemicals appropriately based on manufacturers' SDS requirements
  • Light maintenance and landscaping - perform minor maintenance and landscaping duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be18 years of age with experience in custodial or similar responsibilities
  • Basic understanding of safe chemical use and storage
  • Must be able to communicate in writing and verbally with members and staff
  • Able to read and understand chemical labeling and proper material handling
  • Experience with light maintenance duties desirable
  • Ability to use digital work order system, via tablet
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical Requirements:
  • Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform deep cleaning, ability to set up, tear down and move table chairs, able to move and store materials
  • Able to lift at least 30 lbs. frequently
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to stand, walk, bend, stoop, pull, push, kneel, reach with hands and arms for long periods of time
  • Work in outdoor conditions, often in extreme heat and handle chemicals for long periods of time
Driving Responsibilities:
  • Clean driving record preferred, to be able to operate YMCA vehicles
