Job Description

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the purchasing function across various U.S. facilities, with direct supervision of a team. This role is essential in ensuring purchasing strategies are executed effectively, procurement data within the ERP system is accurate, and department goals are consistently met. Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Management, the individual in this role will play a key part in standardizing purchasing processes, controlling supplier performance, and enhancing team capabilities through performance tools and metrics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide coaching and mentorship to purchasing personnel to build and maintain a high-performing, results-driven team.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the purchase order process, including price quotations, vendor selection, and on-time delivery to meet company timelines.
  • Identify, procure, and manage purchased materials such as parts, components, and finished products to support operational needs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, quality enhancement, and process standardization.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive training program for purchasing staff; ensure ongoing training and retraining to maintain skill proficiency.
  • Ensure strict adherence to established MRP policies and procedures by the purchasing team.
  • Provide both informal coaching and formal performance evaluations for purchasing staff in accordance with company policies and timelines.
  • Promote and maintain the highest standards of ethical conduct in all procurement activities.
  • Monitor Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMRs) and ensure timely resolution and corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Manage the material portfolio to support inventory goals and optimize stock levels through effective purchase order management.
  • Drive the team to meet key purchasing KPIs, including:
  • Inventory turns
  • Direct and indirect materials spend targets
  • Order fill rates
  • Backorder reduction
  • Ensure team members actively use planning tools and reporting systems to guide purchasing decisions and manage spending effectively and provide backup support when needed.
  • Conduct regular audits to verify compliance with procurement policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in supply chain or equivalent.
  • Minimum of (5) years sourcing experience.
  • Minimum of (3) years in a supervisory role.
  • Proven success in a leadership purchasing role, ideally in a multi-site or centralized environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and planning processes; automotive industry experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage shifting priorities with high attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and applying purchasing metrics to enhance performance.
  • Excellent communication and team management skills.
  • Proficient in Excel (ie: pivot tables, charts, creating & running functions)
  • Purchasing experience in Oracle is preferred.
