THIS IS AN UNPAID INTERNSHIP

Description:

Join the Speed Art Museum’s Registrar Department as an unpaid intern and gain hands-on experience in museum operations, collections management, and art documentation. As an integral team member, you will assist with filing, adding metadata to our Collection Management System, TMS (The Museum System), and assisting with the inventory of collections and collection digitization projects.

You’ll collaborate closely with registrars to learn best practices in object handling, condition reporting, and ethical stewardship of cultural property. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop foundational skills in museum registration, deepen your understanding of workflow processes, and contribute to the preservation and accessibility of the museum’s diverse collections. Ideal for students and emerging professionals passionate about art history, museum studies, or cultural heritage management.

FLSA Status: Part-time, 8-12 hours, split between two days.

Duration: 12 weeks

Requirements:

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with filing
  • Adding metadata to our Collection Management System, TMS (The Museum System)
  • Assist with the inventory of collections and collection digitization projects.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in archives, libraries, or museums, or
  • Working towards a degree in Museum Studies, Art History, or Curatorial studies;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Comfortable using MS Office products (namely Outlook, Word) and other software

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to complete the following tasks with/without reasonable accommodations so the requirements of this position can be fully met:

  • Telephone and computer throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position periodically during the shift.
  • Ability to access materials, supplies, etc., intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Communicates using the English language.
  • Sees and hears or uses prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • May need to move equipment, supplies, etc., of up to twenty-five (25) pounds occasionally.
