Job Description

Are you an experienced and compassionate attorney seeking a flexible yet impactful role? Our rapidly growing law firm is looking for a  Senior Family Law Attorney to join our team. This unique opportunity offers the autonomy of a primarily remote work environment, allowing you to serve clients from your preferred location. However, your in-person presence will be required for court appearances, non-remote mediations, and essential client meetings at the Circuit Courts in Anne Arundel, Prince George's County, Baltimore, and Howard County.

We are a firm committed to providing exceptional legal services during some of the clients' most sensitive life transitions. We handle a robust caseload, offering clients options for representation, including unbundled and limited scope services, ensuring a challenging and rewarding practice. We are seeking a seasoned attorney who can navigate complex family law matters, provide empathetic guidance, and contribute to our firm's continued growth and success.

Compensation:

$100,000 - $250,000 yearly commensurate with experience

Responsibilities:
  • Create legal documents such as pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgements and orders for a high volume of cases
  • Keep client files properly organized and up to date
  • Handle the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings as needed
  • Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
  • Help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action
  • Manage a comprehensive caseload of family law matters from initial client intake to final resolution, including divorce, child custody and visitation, child support, spousal support/alimony, property division, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, paternity, domestic violence, and post-judgment modifications.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop sound case strategies.
  • Draft, review, and file a wide range of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and parenting plans.
  • Strategically prepare for and confidently represent clients in all required court appearances, hearings, and trials in Maryland courts.
  • Lead and participate effectively in in-person mediation sessions, advocating for favorable client outcomes.
  • Maintain consistent and empathetic communication with clients, providing clear explanations of legal processes and managing expectations in often emotionally charged situations.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel to achieve amicable resolutions where possible, while always being prepared for zealous litigation.
  • Oversee and collaborate closely with paralegals and support staff to ensure efficient case management and client satisfaction.
  • Manage a caseload of active family law clients, prioritizing tasks and meeting all deadlines.
  • Stay abreast of current Maryland family law statutes, regulations, and case precedents.
  • Contribute to the firm's growth by maintaining high standards of client service and potentially participating in business development initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
  • Ability to successfully represent both plaintiff and defendant sides of a case
  • Prior work or studies in criminal justice preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are required
  • At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary
  • Active and in good standing bar member in the State of Maryland.
  • Must have handled at least 30 hearings and/or trials in the Circuit Court.
  • Have represented and/or consulted with at least 200 family law clients.
  • Experience with Maryland family court procedures, including substantial first-chair trial experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to educate clients through a family law case.
  • Knowledgeable regarding family law practice and procedure within Maryland counties, including Anne Arundel, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Prince George's County.
  • Research facts and evidence involved in each case, such as financial records, evaluations, home studies, expert reports, and pleadings.
  • Develop case strategies, including opportunities for quick and cost-effective resolutions for clients rather than time-consuming and expensive litigation.
  • A compassionate advocate with experience navigating high-conflict, emotional cases with a client-centered approach.
  • Ability to delegate to paralegals and legal assistants when necessary.
  • Proficiency with legal research platforms and case management software.
  • Reliable high-speed internet access and a professional, dedicated home office setup.

What type of person are we looking for?

We want people who possess:

  • True Compassion.
  • Fighter's heart.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Lived experience developing empathy skills.

We are a technological law firm and are experimenting with innovative legal services that clients are seeking. If you are comfortable with technology and open to trying new things, you will feel comfortable at Jerry Williams Law.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience, PTO and paid holidays, and retirement.
